Your child's self esteem is the most important element in their school life and beyond...
Our commitment is to ensure that this first school experience will enhance and nurture a positive self-image. The schedule is simple and flexible, giving the children a balance between free play and structure, always allowing the child an inner timetable of individual growth. The nursery experience is your child’s very first experience to structured education. It very well may influence an attitude toward learning for many years to come.

Parents and teachers are partners in their children's education...
In a co-operative nursery school setting, parents have an opportunity to share in their child’s first school experience. A child’s strongest need is to be with their parents. Both parent and child nurture each other. With our low pupil/teacher ratio, the teacher and parent can ensure that the child’s individual needs are being met and that they are not being hurried. A small group allows for many positive interactions with children and adults. The children and parents feel that they belong to a close-knit group and have a great sense of belonging. When parents participate in their child’s school experience, everyone – child, parent and teacher benefits.
The Program
The E.L.F (Ontario’s Early Learning Framework) curriculum is designed to give the children experiences in: creative art, music and movement, drama, children’s literature, socialization and self-awareness, large and small muscle development, cognitive development, science, group and independent learning experiences, theme exploration, (a wide variety of topics; seasons, insects, animals, dinosaurs, transportation, our community etc.) special visitors, fieldtrips and special celebrations days.
Nursery School Program Elements
- Free Play - Children can choose from a variety of different activities during free play. Activities are planned to give the nursery school child an assortment of skill building activities to choose from. They can try or them all or spend the entire Free Play time enjoying their favourite activity or toy.
- Creative art; from painting and colouring to gluing to cutting to stamping to stringing - simply trying out all sorts of mediums and tools and making messy fun,
- Sensory activities; sand, water, playdoh, shaving cream, goop etc,
- Dramatic play area; dress-up, dolls, kitchen centre, workbench, tent, puppets, grocery store, etc. (selections rotate regularly)
- Blocks and building; various types of building blocks, cars and trucks, Fisher Price and Little Tykes play houses, garages and barns, Brio Train set, little people, animals, dinosaurs, etc. (selections rotate regularly)
- Puzzles and Table Top Activities. Wooden and foam puzzles, string and lacing, bead frames, peg boards lotto games, etc. (selections rotate regularly)
- Book/Quiet Corner - A quite place to sit alone, or with a fiend, and enjoy a book (selections rotate regularly)
- Music Circle - Musical songs, games, finger plays, rhythm instruments, drama and role-playing, rhythm and movement. A chance to; sing quietly, or loudly, to jump, hop, skip, be a bunny a pony or an elephant, make a thunderstorm, sing a rainbow and go on a bear hunt or hold a sleepy kitten. Music and imagination - a magical combination!
- Snack - Sit down with friends and enjoy a nutritious, mid-morning snack. A great opportunity to try some new foods and to practice table manners.
- Workjobs - A self-directed activity where children become actively involved in their learning experience. Workjobs are handmade learning tasks in the form of manipulative activities built around a single concept. Children work with these concepts and ideas concretely by handling familiar objects and manipulating them rather than dealing abstractly with them on paper.
- Group Learning - During group learning time we explore a wide variety of theme topics (click "Themes - Units of Study" for a list of monthly theme topics). Art, and music activities are planned around the theme topics, but at group learning time we "zoom in", and specifically discuss the topic of the week. We might have a luau, pretend to be geese flying south or a bear preparing to hibernate, observe melting snow, plant some seeds and taste some sweet and sour foods. We may even take a bus ride or fly to the moon. Field Trips are planned monthly to coincide with theme topics.
- Story Time - A great story is always a nice way to round up the day!
- Dressing for Outdoors - To best prepare the children for JK, we work on developing self-help skills and becoming independent in dressing for outdoors. The children are encouraged to dress themselves by getting their legs into snow/splash pants and arms in to sleeves. Help is available for zippers and ties, boots go on next, and hats and mittens always go on last!
- Outdoor Play - We have a beautiful playground and we are very excited about developing our outdoor play space. In consultation with a playground specialist, we are developing a plan for creating a wonderful playground. We plan to build into the natural environment and create a playground where children can explore, create and discover, all the while developing their large and small muscles. We will create a space that has several areas of interest, encouraging children to explore the entire space and find many activities to enjoy. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful yard with the large maple trees. This space lends itself naturally to an environment where children will spend many happy hours running, balancing, climbing, digging, gardening, riding, throwing and chasing balls, creating, and discovering all sorts of things from insects to bubbles to building dams, or just sitting on a bench with a friend to chat.
Discover our Friday French Immersion Day
This program is ideal if you are planning to enroll you child French Immersion JK or in a French language school. Your child will be in an environment where they will experience the language in a small and comfortable group setting. The curriculum and program schedule is similar to our popular English language program, the amount of French used will respond to the comfort level of the nursery school students in the class. The goal is to work toward an increased level of spoken French as the school year progresses and, most importantly, for the children to feel relaxed, familiar and comfortable with the language. As with all of our programs, your child's self esteem is paramount! Parents too will have a chance to practice French language skills on duty days! (Max. 12 children/class)
